I've been thinking (after being asked by several guys) of a way to make captions that are pre-selected red items appear on the summary, but not the report (reducing the duplication).
A feature I'm currently working on will put photos at the bottom of each section so for example, you can see the bathroom sink photo when your looking at the Bathroom-Sink tab. You will still add the comments to red/black. And you have the drop down box for captions to select a selected comment like before. So my idea is that on top of that, there will be a setting in Report Options that says "If using a pre-selected comment as a caption, don't print it within the report." It would still show up in the summary, and under the photo, but not be duplicated in the report. What do you think? I suppose we could do this for black comments as well, they'd only show in the caption, not the report. Am I making sense ??? |

Do you mean that when there is a red (problem), this will not show up in the report but only within the summary and below the photo? So, if the client does not read the summary and just jump to the report, they will not see the defect outlined unless they see the photo or decide to read the summary? I do not know how clients read reports, but I suppose there are some that just go for the meat and dive into the report and believe the printed word without really glancing at a picture long enough to read the caption. I am just wondering if the client will pick up on the defect under all circumstances (they being stupid enough to not read the report as intended).

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. I've had quite a few people ask for this as they don't want the content duplicated under the photo and in the report and on the summary. If it's added, it would definitely be a report option. I wouldn't change how the program works now. I do tend to agree though, but I think it depends on how you do your reports. Some guys take photos of EVERYTHING and their report is 90% captions. In those cases I can see the usefulness of the feature.

Robert, I do not want my one issue repeated three times exactly the same way.
I do my narrative in the picture caption, if the client doesnt read it there, they don't need a report!. I however do not want my client, agent, home owner, home builder to have to sucome to redundant verbage. It makes the issue seem larger than it really is, and I don't need that. |

I think I would like this, the way it is now I put all the pics in (which are alot) and then go through and place my comments in each section. If I want to have the comments under the pictures now, I have to go back through at least 100 pictures and place them there.
If I understand what you are saying, The picture would be on the screen within the section , I place the comment in the "red" then go down and select the caption for the picture. This would be much easier, and I believe I would use the option, sounds good if I understand. |
