Going back to the idea of flexible summaries (multiple colors, etc). I do Pre-Listing (Seller) inspections and would like to enhance my product by offering my clients a two to three page "marketing" slick that basically gives a Quick Glance summary of the house and the key findings in the Inspection Report.  Short of creating my own document from scratch, do any of you have any suggestions on how this could be done using HIP? Minimally I would want the ability (in the summary) to use two colors to differentiate the significant material defects and safety issues from the important, yet less significant defects.
Thanks for any input.  Ken

Hi Ken,

The ability to have 2 colors in the summary is a ways off due to all the complications tied up in how that would work, all the features we have planned on the number of people currently requesting this feature is quite low. It really creates quite a change in the program to do this and we have to focus on what the majority of guys want first before focusing on items like this (though it is on the to-do list and implementation strategies have been discussed). The upcoming release will have a new drop down box feature that you can add in front of narratives. How about adding a drop down box for a comment to show something like Safety & Cosmetic and then you can just choose that in the front of the comment?

Thanks Dom.

I do that manually today, so having the drop down will be convenient. I know there's been debate about having multiple colors, but I happen to think it adds a lot of value, particularly if it's selectable.  My customers have asked for it.
Is there any way to change colors and rearrange the items "post" production using a PDF editor?

If you uncheck the secure PDF box under Report Settings->Options you could use Acrobat Pro or Nitro PDF to change text around. I'd suggest trying out a free trial first before buying to see if you think it's worth it.

Right on Sherman, The flexability would be great, You do not need all summmary items in red. For those of us who print on site for our customers, colored ink cost much more than black. That being said, the summary items would have to be listed as summmary items, ( separeated some how ) and not lost in the text in the full report.

George, you can make the summary colors any color you want, click on Report Settings->Formatting. Red makes the most sense for those using printers with only one cartridge as it will use up the red. If you have single ink cartridges then black is cheap but doesn't look as good as using a color on the report. Check out ebay for kits and refill them on your own for a few bucks each.
