I'm O.K. with the page numbers to the sections... I guess I'd like to just be able to look at the TOC, and be able to jump right to the specific section I was looking for. for an example, if it was the Kitchen I needed to thumb to, I'd look down the list and see something like . . Kitchen ................. 22 . . and know that I just needed to find page 22 |

Why couldn't you just click on Kitchen on the bookmarks on the left side?
Should we match the TOC pages with the color in the header? |

Well, the whole reason I would like a TOC is because besides the electronic report I send to my clients, I also print and bind a report booklet that I send thru the mail to the clients. In this way, they can just thumb to a section without having to page thru the whole report trying to find it. So, I was thinking that the TOC can look just like the other pages of the report (headers/borders, etc.) With each section listed and the page number that it starts on. That is it. That is all that is needed. Obviously the electronic report wouldn't really need this. My clients like that they also get a paper copy of the report and that they do not have to waste colored ink or find a colored printer to print their own report from the electronic report. I find that they are taking this printed report and discussing it at the table with the realtor, friends, family, etc. They like this added offering that I supply.

With our constant reminding to get our clients to read the entire report, is anyone concerned that a TOC will make it easier for the client to skip things? I like the fact they have to dig a little. I get zero complaints either, only compliments.

I could see the benefit with huge reports. 100 or 150 page commercial inspection reports or reports for 40.000 sq ft homes. For the reports I write a TOC would likely be something I would uncheck so it wouldn't print. There may be enough of you who do have huge reports though so it may be worth while to have it as an option.

In my opinion, the usefulness of the TOC is when you print a copy, and don't have the ability to "just click on ..." i.e. you need a roadmap to where, in the report, is what I am looking for. |
