TOPIC: Need some information from a home inspector.

Re: Need some information from a home inspector. 13 years 2 weeks ago #45385

Joe, David has helped out TONS of inspectors in the past, HIPsters and others alike (and had for years). I'm guessing what he's come up with took some time to develop, but I'd have to see it!

That's okay, I don't think I could get to that anyway.

It always amuses me how home inspectors believe their services are worth so much but want everything for free or do things at the least investment possible (even though it will not produce the desired results).

I made one of these things a year ago. It took me three days to develop and locate a source of parts and software. I haven't made any plans or the video, which would probably take another eight hour day. Seeing as I charge $1634 /day and have over $11,000 worth of inspections to complete before the end of January, I probably can't even justify my offer.

The reason for my offer is I had a thermal inspection job ($3600) for Freddy Mac which identified water damage to a building complex because of leaking dryer vents. They wanted the dryer vents inspected after repairs, so I made a camera to do it. Seeing as Robert is venturing down the same path and already owns some of the equipment, I figured if he was handy he could make his own.

Combined costs are hundreds of dollars less than any option anyone else offered here (for free)! :-)

Relax, remember this is a FRIENDLY board ;) Obviously he had a huge commercial entity (Freddie Mac) willing to pay. That's all that matters!

I will explain myself but I have no intention of getting in a sparring match with you ( Joe ) on this message board.

If you want to take the gloves off we can go over to that other message board and do it all day long. But were not going to do it here.

"It always amuses me how home inspectors believe their services are worth so much but want everything for free or do things at the least investment possible (even though it will not produce the desired results)."

This was not directed at you or your post but it was because of your post and unexplained response to my post which was rather insulting.

$45  !?
What is the big deal ?

I see a guy here that's in the business of cleaning dryer vents. I had a job directly related to this and I developed a tool using dryer vent cleaning components (the rods that extend the camera and protected inside of the duct).

The reason for my comment was that for a measly $45 I was going to sit down produce a documented procedure for building one of these things that would save anyone here hundreds of dollars for a mere $45 investment in my time.

The point of my comment is that home inspectors (and obviously at this point you fall into this category) that will not invest anything beyond "free" to promote or develop their business.

As far as I'm concerned, my business plan is pay-as-you-go. If you can't donate $45 for me to spend my time to teach you something (beyond giving you some general advice) then I'm not wasting my time cultivating your business that you refuse to invest in.

Just because you cannot seem to figure out how to use this tool (which I have used on numerous occasions and made about $8000 in the first year of ownership), some people like Robert can. I can afford to go by a professional snake camera now!?

But how many people here can do that at this point? If I can get you a device for $100 and you can make $8000, you've made a profit and can invest in better equipment if you find it necessary, because you obviously found a way to use it.

The photograph above may seem totally insignificant to you because you can't conceptualize the facts. How many clients will spend to fix this problem? Well in this case they spent $37,000!

If you have a problem with someone here making a living and offering to perform a service for a fee, why don't you just elect to ignore it? Apparently you feel I'm not entitled to charge for my time. If anyone has a bitch to pitch it would be Dominic as I'm using his message board to promote spam that will generate huge profits in my business endeavor.

You expect someone to invest in your business for the information you produce, but nobody else is allowed to do that.

No one here is expected to do anything for free. If you run your business based on " free", you will never succeed to become financially independent.

This thread is probably is as big of a learning experience as it gets! It's not about the camera, it's about perspective.

Being amused is my perspective.
Your additional posts are even more amusing!
Believe me, the loss of $45 is not going to make me bankrupt anytime in this millennium!

I've actually received several e-mails about this camera but as I posted, it will not likely be available by Christmas!

I guess I should've charged $500 to bring credibility to my offering!
Go out there and offer $95 home inspections and you'll get the same response. I should've known better?
