TOPIC: Don't fall for the registration scams!

Don't fall for the registration scams! 16 years 2 weeks ago #4000

Quite a few people lately have sent me emails like the following below. These are companies trying to get you to register more domain names (making them $$). You will NOT lose your domain name. The only people you should ever respond to are the people you registered your name through (like GoDaddy.com, Register.com, Enom, etc) and the people hosting your site (us, grassfrog, alamode, yahoo, etc).

Here's an example I got today from a NACHI inspector:

Dear Advantage Home & Property Inspections LLC,

We are a domain name registration organization in Hong Kong, mainly dealing with the domain names' conflicts of company in Asia regions. We received a formal application from a company that is applying to register some domain names with the keyword "idahohomeinspector" and register it as their internet keyword on November 5, 2008. After investigation, we found that it is the same as your company name and trademark, so we inform you of this issue. In order to find out if it could affect you or not, we still have not confirm the third company yet. And if you think the domains are important and would like to protect them by registering ahead,  please contact us by telephone or email as soon as possible.

Best Regards,
Monica.Meng
