TOPIC: Inspection Template vs Report Template

Would it be possible to set up a narrative that could be put in multiple locations in a inspection template, but only showed up in one place in the report.

Example:

               REVERSED POLARITY                                There was a receptacle(s) that had reversed polarity. You should have this corrected. LOCATION: attic, rear exterior, and living room

The reversed polarity could be in multiple locations in the report in inspection tabs, but only show up in the correct location in the electrical section on the report. The narrative would be the same but any locations could be entered from different inspection tabs and combine in the report tab that will print

I just keep playing with the idea in my head, I just don't know if the programming is possible.

The problem is getting them to merge into one narrative so there's no replication. It's not just hard for me to program, it would be very intensive on the inspectors side to set up. I'm still constantly thinking out it though too and watching for ideas on ways to solve this. Keep the ideas coming!

What about tabs that could be placed in other parts of the report.

Example: In you Attic section you would have an electrical tab. The narratives in the attic electrical tab would be the exact same as the narratives in the electrical tab, but the only place they would populate in the report would be the electrical section.

The inspector could only type in location in the attic electrical and only that information would combine in the electrical section.

So if you had a crawlspace electrical, garage electrical, attic electrical

The only information that would combine would be what is entered after location delineated by a comma or something. The narrative itself would only be live in the electrical section, and be used for data collection anywhere else.

That might be hard as guys couldn't change the narrative itself if they wanted to.

But, something you mentioned there did spark an idea. What if the tabs truly were IDENTICAL. Meaning that the comments, red/black were actually the same tab in each area. So if you added a comment to red in crawlspace electrical, it would show in garage, attic and most importantly the main electrical that would actually show on the report? Then you could just modify the comment to tack on your location? That could cause a lot of comments to be listed in the main narrative list though.

I wouldn't mind that because that is what happens now when we merge reports. I just cut and paste the locations.

I'm not concerned about having the ability to change the narrative in the extra tabs. These narratives would be pretty standard and not require change because the condition is going to be described the same no matter what section it is in only the location would be different.

If there were any changes needed in the narrative it would just have to be typed in. My goal is to be able to complete the attic section for example without leaving the attic section at all or as little as possible.

If I am following this correctly, it sounds like you want to use a room by room type template and still create a shorter system by system report?
