TOPIC: Modifying and merging templates and reports...

Modifying and merging templates and reports... 11 years 4 months ago #54167

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, new to home inspections, first post, trying to get up to speed with Home Inspector Pro.

I'm modifying a copy of the "Residential 1" template and things are getting a little screwy.

I added a new category, "Walls," under the Structure menu.  Then, under Walls, I added one damage pane and two selection panes -- "Interior" and "Exterior."

Next, I added "Test" as a category under the "Structure" menu.

I wanted to add the "Fireplace" template as a new menu item.  The only way I could figure out how to do that was to save the Fireplace template as a report and merge it with the residential template.

Now, when I go under "Edit Template" screen to add inspection items to Test the program has already added the inspection items under Fireplace's "Cleanout" category.  And, it's replaced the inspection items under Fireplace's "Vent Connector" with the single inspection item from Walls.

If I look under Test in the report template it's blank.  Just a white screen.  Vent Connector shows up like it's supposed to but with no inspection items to pick from.  And, Walls (under Structure) has the same screen as Vent Connector.

Is it me or Home Inspector Pro?  Can I merge the Fireplace Template with the Residential template another way.

Thanks!

Wayne...

Hi Wayne, welcome to the forums!

When you merge templates HIP is going to match up any tabs within an item if the page already exists. The fireplace template in HIP is a phase 1 chimney inspection and doesn't have any narratives as it was a specialty template based on InterNACHI's Commercial SOP for guys to add their own comments to (via the Edit Comments->Add button).

To add a new section of the report click Edit Template, single click the actual menu (folder icon) you want the new section to appear under, type the name in the bottom left and click add.

When you have a moment click on Tutorials at the top of this site and watch the two tutorials on editing the template. You can also call us during the day or do a live chat session so we can help you out.

Thanks, Dominic.  I figured out how to add a section.  What I hope to do is incorporate the existing fireplace template so I don't have to enter the whole thing manually.

That would be done via the File->Import/Merge inspection. The problem is that you're merging a phase 1, detailed fireplace template into a normal residential inspection. There's already a fireplace in Residential Template 1, why don't you just move it somewhere else if you don't like where it is?

I found it, didn't realize it was already there.  Thanks, Dominic.
