TOPIC: How do you use HIP ?

Re: How do you use HIP ? 13 years 6 months ago #41060

Just look at how tiny of a lens they give you to see why the slightest movement ruins the shots.

Here's some samples from a house last week.  Right now I'm doing about 100 photos on average and about 1/3-1/2 go into the report.

And why are inspectors needing zoom on 1/4-1/2 of their shots?  I understand if they can't walk a roof, attic or crawlspace, but around here that is the exception not the rule.  And if you are taking a photo from a distance of some component you can't possibly fully inspect, then aren't you going to disclaim it anyway?  So if you can't get a sharp, zoomed photo of an item you are disclaiming anyway, why is that...  bad?

And I still have to come back to the fact that HIP reduces the resolution anyway.  So unless you are burning a cd of all the inspection photos for your clients, they aren't going to get the sharp, zoomed in copy anyway.  Personally at this point I don't give my clients the photo originals. I would have to discuss it further with my lawyer if I considered changing that practice, but the reason I don't now is due to liability. I want to be in control of the photos.

So far the iphone does a great job, the camera I had before was only a 3 megapixel.  Before I was carrying:

1. phone
2. camera
3. digital voice recorder
4. PDA - scheduler
5. GPS (in truck)

The iphone has replaced them all and I can use it to email too.  And keep in mind guys, I just started using HIP in the last 2-3 months. Prior to that I did about 5-10 photos per inspection.  I'm still forming my reporting practices.  Perhaps you are helping to form them even now...

Hey Dom, This actually brings up a question I've had for some time.  Would it be possible to bring up the photo resolution within the report just a little?  Could there be three report-wide settings you could select from for your photos, low, med & high?  Sometimes I do wish the resolution within the report was just tiny bit higher.  Most of my reports come in at about a 2-4Mb PDF, but anymore high speed seems to be the norm so clients can handle larger files.  If the resolution of the photos was raised to where the finished PDF was at about a 3-5Mb, would the photo clarity improve much?
