That is correct Jeff, and keep telling them.

Here is an example of deck ledger flashings,
A wide piece of self-adhered flashing is installed on the sheathing and the ledger gets attached to it.


Structural screws that meet code are used to attach to studs or box sill.


In addition, I like to place another adhered flashing to protect the top of the ledger from wicking action after the copper flashing is installed.


Once the copper flashing is installed, another piece of adhere flashing is installed on the copper as seen in the first photo. Then the WRB is drapped over that and taped again.

This is an existing trim board that I felt with my hands and new there was a problem. This whole house has issues. Cedar clapboard siding not caulked and no drip caps on any of the bottom trim. I was leary of a problem and took it off.
This is what it looks like.
Now if this would have been OSB sheathing, major problems would have occurred way before now, so next time you see a house with clapboard siding and trim installation as in this picture, assumme the worst. It usually will be.
