The attic stairs should be reported. Too steep is a safety issue and if it is too narrow, how do you carry anything up the stairs?

I would like a better image of the carpeted stairs.

I would still consider that an open riser (over 4") even though the carpet has covered it, since it is not a solid material. Not only making it not to code but also a safety hazard. Whether the carpet is glued or tacked down (don't see tack strip must be glued) it will eventually come loose as the carpet at riser is kicked with use, especially with no backing.
David , what's the width on the stairway going to attic conversion. Did you get a measurement? If that door is a 2-6 or 2-8 ( using door to scale it) then it's ok since it has a few inches on each side of the door which would give us an acceptable 3-0 minimum stairway width. if the door is only a 2-0 than the stairway is too narrow. The tread size looks ok. What's the height of the risers? Do you have pic from other end?
