TOPIC: Insulation dams between the house attic and attached garage??

I can't find any building standards for insulation dams between the house attic and attached garage.  I inspected a new home recently and noted that some of the loose fiberglass insulation had fallen into the un-insulated garage attic.  In my report I suggested installing an insulation dam between the house and garage to prevent this.  The builder refuses to do it because it is not required.  Any help would be appreciated. 

before suggesting such a thing I would recommend that you document and proof that a deficiency does in fact exist. In this case you will have to prove that your local energy code has been violated. This can be very tricky because if the builder exceeded the requirements in one area, a deficiency of the same percentage as the gain cancels everything out. So you have to do an entire weatherization audit on the house.

Just because we have good ideas doesn't mean that that we have anything to say about anything. Your client has the only authority in a home inspection and that's because they sign the check it escrow. If they want it done then they can negotiate with the builder themselves, or not sign the check.

Don't be surprised the builder refused;you made a recommendation...as long as the garage is fire rated.
