TOPIC: tragic preventable Home Fire

tragic preventable Home Fire 12 years 8 months ago #47663

Not sure how many have heard, but a house fire in Charleston WV claimed 8 lives on Friday Evening. 6 of the victims were under the age of 8, having a sleep over. There were two smoke detectors in the two story house, one of which was working but was installed UNDER a kitchen cabinet! I would like to find the news article and put it up on my website somewhere, maybe even a news feed article. Some of you guys may want to research the story, even though it's not in your area, it is a great lesson and something to point out to potential clients.

That's really sad. Definitely an important thing to put on your site to get the word out.

good article. And City Building Inspectors here have about 1/10 of the credentials of a certified home inspector in this state. I think the results would have been the same even if their "inspector" had completed an inspection. I'm just sayin'. >:(

Why would a city building inspector go inspect a home for a smoke detector? Would there have needed to be some prior cause? That's just not something that happens out here in California.

I think it may have been a "low income" house, which require city inspections from time to time. I understand it's about a 30 minute inspection, looking at carpet condition, appliances, and maybe run the heater/ac. That's why I said their city inspections are a joke. The presence or absence of smoke detectors would never have been discovered anyway, not by them.
