I did an inspection on a new construction the other day and I wanted to know what the height requirements are for a natural gas fireplace. I measured the horizontal clearance at 7 feet from chimney to roof. I know that wood burning fireplaces should have a 10 foot horizontal clearance. Is the 10 foot horizontal clearance rule the same for natural gas burning fireplaces?
I called it out as needing to be raised to the 10 foot horizontal clearance. Thanks in advance!!! |

Looks like it's still 10 feet from the spot 2 feet below the roof. Source:

Sweet thanks Dom. I couldn't find anything that specifically addressed my question until now. Everything I was finding addresses it as a wood burning fireplace first. Karma for you kind Sir.
