TOPIC: Bad advice!!

Wow, $150... How big was the home... never mind $150????

It was 1498 SQFT  I didn't even try to talk the guy into my inspection.  He was dead set on the $150 already.  I would have priced it at $225.  If it were 1500 SQFT I would have priced it at $275.

In my area there are two inspectors that the realtors recommend. One charges $175.00 the other $210.00, 1-1½ hrs doing the inspection and printing the report on site using  Microsoft excel, add 6-8 pictures and then they move on to the next victim. I told these realtors that 1-1½ hrs is not an inspection but they disagreed, said that they always do a good job for then and never had any complaints from their clients. 

Those Realtors are most likely used cars salesmen in a past life!!!  LOL

If the first or second question from the caller is "how much do you charge for a home inspection" I ask if they have all ready gotten prices, if they respond "yes" I ask in what price range, they usually quote a low of 150.

And as in David's post, the HO gets what they pay for.

In this case I would have offered to do a home inspection, for a fee.

With the cost of license, insurance, software, dues, equipment,training, gas, etc. I do not understand why someone would want to give their work away.

Most of the time they do a crappy job, because they need to be done in an hour to make any money.

Most of these guys will probably be sued out of the business. But that does not help us now.

Isn't that the truth and the quicker they are gone the better for the professionals.

We are governed by 'the Board of Technical Registration' here in Arizona and they really do a good job in ridding us of these 'clowns', but they have to receive a complaint first.
