Is there a outdoor ambient temperature when we should not turn on the AC, I've heard that it could damage the unit.

Make sure you are familer with heat pump units as these can be damaged if activated in the wrong mode during colder weather. I can't see where you are located demographically but chances are you are going to run across a few of these units in your travels.
