TOPIC: best android device for taking photos including zoom in

My Note 3 suffered a fatal injury today.

Need to replace it with the best android device for taking photos. My samsung s7 phone is not bad, but is there a better camera phone

I don't use it for reporting, but I have an S7 and the camera is pretty extraordinary.  When you say better what more do you think you need? 

If you take a lot of pictures from a distance and use the zoom a lot you are going to find that nearly any phone or tablet type device won't work well for that because they incorporate digital zoom rather than optical zoom.  Optical zoom is much better for clarity and is far superior to digital zoom if you are looking to maintain some level of detail.  There are a few devices out there that have optical zoom, but I don't have any working experience with them.

Personally I've found that a small digital camera works best for me and I can get them for under $100, which is a much easier expense to swallow should I break it.  Furthermore I don't really like having my S7 with me while I'm crawling a nasty crawlspace, my point and shoot camera I wipe down with a bleach solution...but still it doesn't go near my mouth.  LOL.

If I found a compact device with optical zoom and a good flash and that supported HIP I'd probably give up the point and shoot, but I hadn't found anything as of earlier this year.

Thanks Barry, I use both a point and shoot and a mobile device, but to speed up reporting I like to take most of my photos with the mobile device and use limited zoom photos for the optical point and shoot camera only.

May stick with the Samsung S7 unless there is a better digital zoom camera available

Gotcha - - well if you come up with another solution please let us know and I'll do the same.  I'm with ya 100%, I'd love to be able to take my photos on the fly and be done it'd save me about an hour post-inspection and on my desktop importing pictures.

My note 5 is awesome and I bought the note 7 and it was working great until I had to return it.  I  will try it again hopefully soon.    I hear the new LG V20 is the best thing yet
