I have used HIP for a long time now, but the one thing I know I'm not doing as efficiently as I can is template updating.
Current Process: I leave a WORD document open on laptop or a NOTE document on my phone. During the inspection if there is a narrative or caption that I end up using a lot I put in report and copy/paste to the WORD document. At the end of the week I add all the new narratives and captions. I don't currently update my template during inspections when I change or add things because I start with a base report that has many descriptions already pre-selected that I don't want changed. So if I stop starting with my base report and start with a template I know I can change the template and merge my base report with all my pre-selected items and graphics. My question is how can I then save the changes to my base report? I hope this is somewhat clear, which I doubt, because I'm even confused a bit I just know there is an easier way than the way I'm doing it now. Basically...I just want an easier way to save new narratives and captions. |

The easiest way is to update the template with the current report but I know you use a existing inspection for creating reports so you can have selected comments, illustrations already in place. (I try the same)
I update my template often and I am currently doing a major revision since I upgrade to 4.0 and I am trying to use mobile I pad. |

Why can't you still Save Template back on the desktop? That would still update the template that you upload back to mobile.

Troy...I only started using the merge function for a pre-filled template in the last month.
Dominic will correct me if I'm wrong on my assumptions here. I personally am always updating my template. The template you use to merge in a report is NOT that dynamic. In other words...you don't need to continually change it. Lets say you come across a house with vermiculite insulation and you create a comment for explaining the possibility of asbestos; type it up and save it to your template. Asbestos insulation is not common and there is not reason to change the prefilled merge template. On the other hand...if your pre-filled merge template was set-up with only 2 baths, and you find every home your inspecting has 2.5 baths; then modified the template you use for merging |
