Dom, what software do you recommend to use to create .mp4 file?

This may or may not apply to your request, but if you are using an apple product to take videos when using HIP mobile, there is no need to modify the videos you are taking when loading them into the desktop version. Apple videos have the MOV extension and are not "seen" in the HIP file window when attempting to insert a video. If you simply change the extension of your video to MP4, the files will be seen by HIP and you can load them normally.

This is actually the subject of a request Dom. Can you make Apple videos with the MOV extension on a windows computer visible to HIP?

Thanks Cameron, I'll take a look at that and see if MOV will work that easily. If it's just a rename it should work fine.

Added, tested & done. Expect 7.0.5 in the next few days with mov added. Oh, and Karma for Cameron.

Used to using AVCHD myself but have converted my camera to MP4 and use Android like most .
My experimentation with video will be to create still shots during shooting and then add the stills through HIP gallery however see the same issue as others in that it creates a poor file when doing bulk add so hope that gets fixed at some point.

If the question involves editing Faststone is cheap and very good or you can use the built in OS desktop software ' movie maker '

No idea what Apple does.
