TOPIC: How do I go about using HIP mobile?

How do I go about using HIP mobile? 10 years 4 months ago #58293

Sounds like a dumb question but I am a dinosaur looking to modernize my inspection processes.

Current process:

I use a Fujitsu life book to collect data and build my inspection report as I go through the home.  I take photos as well. I add the cover photo and print the report with my Canon IP 100 printer, and burn the photos on a CD.

Yea I know.....there is a better way!

Here's the question:

I have a Sony Xperia phone and I know there is a blue tooth adapter for the printer.

Would it be possible to use HIP mobile to collect the data, insert the photos in the report as I proceed through the home, generate the report and then send it to the printer via blue tooth.

Please tell me what I would need and how to go about it if this scenario is possible.

Just an old guy trying to get modern, be nice :D

Cheers

Hi Doug

Not a dumb question at all. I can just relate my experience.

I started using my Samsung note with the mobile app about two years ago. Gave up on it quite some time ago because it just took too long and it kept freezing.

I went back to taking pictures and doing the report at home.

Recently I bought a Samsung Tab 4 and there is a worlds difference. I have the 10.1 inch and would recommend the same. There is absolutely no comparison between the tab 4 (or probably any other bigger tablet)and using your phone.

I have had no issues except a problem once with zipping files before sending the report to the cloud. This was quickly corrected through the on line help.

I still take the odd picture with my camera because it has a better zoom. I load them to my tab 4 using a micro SD card.

My opinion is save yourself the frustration using your phone and get a tablet, a bigger tablet. Send the inspection to your home computer over the cloud, check it over and send it to your clients that night.

Good luck! Tim

Thanks for your input Tim.

I really like the idea, and so do my clients, of printing the report on site and having them leave with something in their hand.  I've been doing this for almost 9 years and almost 3,000 inspections. I really don't want to do anything vastly different.

Having said that, what the heck is the "cloud"
I've heard the term but I've no idea what it is or how to use it. (I said I was a dinosaur)

The cloud is really just a word for a bunch of servers (stronger computers) on the Internet. We use Amazons cloud. So when you upload a file from the desktop it goes to a server at Amazon, then the server reformats the file for mobile, then get's downloaded to your mobile device.

Thanks for the info Dominic.

However, could the method mentioned in my first post work with HIP mobile?

Does HIP mobile work with the same inspection templates as the original  version?

Cheers
