TOPIC: wind mitigation question and suggestion

wind mitigation question and suggestion 11 years 6 months ago #53503

On the OIR B1 1802 form under section 2 roof covering  the HIP program allows me to either put application for permit date or installation - replacement date but not both.
My insurance agents are requiring both because these two dates could be in a different year. is there any way to do both? I am having to open my wind mits in a different program to annotate this into my completed HIP report.
Thank you for your help.

Hi John,

I talked with John Shishilla this last weekend who is in charge of the FL InterNACHI Insurance chapter. He does around 200 Wind Mits a month. I also talked with a few other inspectors who do over 100 a month. All of them stated the form clearly states that this is an OR not an AND. You are not supposed to put both on there. We talked with dozens of top inspectors when creating this form to make sure new inspectors couldn't make a mistake and that was part of it. John said you can email or call him and he'll even talk to the agent for you as they're definitely incorrect. You can look up his info at honorconstruction.com/

Hi Dom,
first - just because a homeowner applies for a permit that does not necessarily mean the roof was replaced. second - a permit could be applied for in the late months of one year and replacement could occur in the following year so the years on the two could be different. I know John Shishilla, I am a member of the insurance inspector chapter too and I do over 100 wind mits a month too.
I am just trying to give my customer what he needs from me. No problem I will annotate the finished product.
Thanks for your response.

John, the problem is that the form clearly says to fill in one comment OR the other. So I'm a bit stuck on what to do. We're trying to ensure everyone complies with the regulations. Do me a favor and please call John and discuss it. If he agrees that it's allowed to fill in both boxes and that it won't cause problems for others then we can make the change.

Hi Dom,
Thank you for your response.
You are right it does say or but this particular agent has sent a ton of business my way / just trying to give him what he needs. No problem, I'll talk with John about it some time this week.
HIP mobile works great on these by the way. Great job.
On another note...
I was trying to save my four point template and saved a home inspection template over it. Whoops!
How can I get the four point template again. also Wayne in tech support told me I would need to add a damage panel to add photos to the 4 point template. How do I add that?
Thanks a bunch.

Open up the last 4 point that you did and then click Save Template and save it over your 4 point. It will response the template used on that job.

Click Edit Template to add a damage panel. Click Tutorials at the top and look at the Edit Template tutorial if you want to watch a step by step.
