Hi Dominic,
lately I have noticed a high CPU usage = in the range of 50+% and fairly high allocation of memory [165,000] for the HIP running Java. Is that normal? 50%-55% just seem too demanding. It seems to freeze up a program occasionally, mainly due to other system updates, or Safari being open at the same time. Is there any way to lower the demand? I have a Dell Laptop 1525, Core 2 Duo processors T5550, and 3GB RAM memory, which should be sufficient. About 30% of RAM is used by the StartUp/Running programs and processes, before I even start the HIP/Java, so at 80% plus it does not leave much room for any other updates, McAfee etc.. I also have a Carbonite backup, which is also annoying because it indexes files even though I have it scheduled not to run until evenings. Any suggestions? Thanks Frank |

The ram is totally normal. If yo batch import 100 pictures and each is 5 megs each that's 500 megs of ram HIP has to use to process those pics. Windows doesn't allow a program to ever reduce it's memory usage after that point. The CPU usage is totally different though, there's no reason HIP should be using 50% CPU on dual core. It uses less than that on my 1.6ghz single core.
What version of HIP are you using? What version of Java do you have installed on your machine? What version of Windows are you using? Uninstall McAfee, it's junk. Install the free version of AVG instead. |

I do not download pics into HIP until I am done with written part, so it cannot really lockout that much RAM.
I am using : HIP 3.2.7 Java 7 version 13 Vista McAfee - I prepaid for the year, will have to wait to get away from that. |

I shut down HIP, restarted and now it shows 0% CPU usage - could it be Java updating as I was using it or because I was updating my template? Seems fine right now, but I did note that several times before.
BTW - in the template editing, the + expand and - collapse do not seem to work properly = left pane tree. It will not collapse the tree once expanded, unless you add another item to the main menu. Java update issue? |

Yes if Java was updating at the same time that would DEFINITELY do it. In fact I recommend closing out of HIP while Java runs.
The expand/collapse should be disabled actually. I have it set to always be open. |

Thanks Dominic,
I think Java has updated 2 days ago and it might have been mashing with the HIP program, as I was using it. Anyway, it is running fine right now. Frank |
