Hello all. I downloaded HIP3 and with the great help of Dan and Dominic, got my template converted from HG to HIP. I'm trying it out now on my Mac, and when I added a type of gutter under my Roof Drainage system, the "Good, Fair, Poor, etc" blocks disappeared to make room for the "move up, move down, add, delete, etc buttons.
Now I cannot seem to get those back. Because of this, my sections do not turn green. What do I do? Do you always need to have those "good, Fair, poor" blocks? Also, on my Mac, I had to move the dock over to the right instead of the "normal" bottom area, because I could not see the "Show Photos" button. DO all Mac users need to do this? Warning- These are the first of I"m sure many dumb questions.... Frank |

I have a couple of more questions.....(sorry!)
I downloaded HIP3 less then two weeks ago with Dominic at a conference. It already says my license is expired. That is ok for now because I will be back up in NY for the next couple of weeks for a family function and will not be able to use this much then. I'm hoping I can at least try this out a bit and get comfortable with it before my trial runs out. Another question for Mac users....when I minimize a report, (by hitting the yellow button in the top left corner) The HIP icon looks VERY pixilated. Is that normal? I appreciate all the help I received in converting my HG template to HIP....but I am beginning to think it might be better for me to make a new HIP template from scratch, as it did not convert as mirrored as I thought it would. Thanks!! Frank |

Sorry to post again, but I do think I'll understand the program better if I make my own new template. Where I'm a bit confused is with Homeguage under your components you toggle between "Styles and Materials" and "Inspection Items".
I generally first do "Styles and Materials" which is basically just saying what you have. For example, my first component is "Exterior" Under "Styles and Materials" in "Exterior" I have 8 things I list; Siding Material/Veneer Soffits- Eaves Exterior doors Windows & Screens Appurtenances Porches/Patios Driveways/walks Vegetation-grounds On each of these I have types to click, like for exterior doors the different types of doors I have encountered. When I get done with my "Styles and Materials" I toggle over to "Inspection Items"- I have 6 of them; Wall Cladding, Flashing and Trim Eaves, soffits and Fascia Doors Windows and screens Patios, porches Driveways, walkways, vegetation Beside these 6 items I have 5 boxes I can click, Inspected, Not Present, Repair or replace, Not Inspected, and one more called excluded, which if clicked hides that from the report. I'm confused a bit as to how I "plug" these types into HIP....with HIP, is there a way to put in styles and materials and items inspected? Thanks! I just got to rethink my thinking.... Frank |

Another question...(sorry)
Under "laundry Room" there is a line saying "location of laundry room" to the left of that, there are the boxes "Good, fair, poor, N/A, none" I'm not understanding why. In HG, this would fall under the "Styles and Materials" section where you click either Garage, Interior Closet, or Utility Room. Where the laundry room is does not seem to be something that would have a "Good, fair, poor, N/A, none box. There must be something I'm not getting. Frank |

Hi Frank,
Okay, answering here one at a time! Just an FYI that we look over support tickets every few minutes but the message boards every few hours. So for quicker help go to the help desk. I highly recommend doing a single report with one of our default templates or your HomeGauge converted template before going to make your own. 1. Click Edit Comments to toggle between ratings and the editor on the left. 2. By default in HIP styles & materials are not in a totally separate place from the observations. This makes reports easier to read aas your styles will be directly attached to the observations for each item (less bouncing your eyes around to find all the particulars on a single item). It also decreases your reporting time greatly. Many of the tabs are split into a selection panel on top (meant for materials, locations, etc, similar to styles & materials you're used to) and damage panels below with the red/black area. The red/black are your observations. 3. You should not need to move the dock to see all the buttons like Show Photos. Just make sure you have the program full screen and you'll see everything fine. 4. If your license is showing expired that means you haven't loaded the temp license that was sent to you yet. Try loading it up, then exit the program right away and then you'll be good to go. If your license does expire just let us know and we'll extend it, not a problem! 5. No the HIP icon shouldn't look pixelated. Do you know what resolution your Mac is set to? 6. You can rename your ratings via Report Settings->Ratings if you'd like (or turn them off) to match your Inspected, Not Present, etc. 7. Regarding the laundry room, I'd need to see it. Part of that could be how the template was converted. It's not a 100% perfect conversion (more like 95%) just because we don't do things exactly like HG so you might need to rename stuff. You shouldn't have ratings with locations, you're correct. Check out the default template for a few minutes and you'll see what I mean. |

I am a MAC user. The dock at the bottom can be adjusted in size. I had the same problem. Click and hold the dock on the right side where the set of dashes are located and make the dock just a little smaller and you should see the photo button just fine.
The icon will be pixilated when you minimize it, but only the icon on the right side of the dashes in the dock, the left side icon should not be pixilated. |
