TOPIC: Do you do report in office, field or combination?

For the past few months I have been using the CTL2 sparingly in the field.

Seems I can get done with inspection much quicker and my camera is used for defects and identification.
I only note on clipboard, bath/bed locations.

I typically arrive early and enter the exterior info and pics, leave computer in bag and complete inspection, do report at home.

I had a clean 1997 build that I showed up at same time as buyer/seller in an SBO transaction as it is a gated community. I could not believe I finished inspection in 1.5 hours. Report only took about an hour but this was on a clean house.

It just seems with all these POS around here that I am slowed down looking for a comment not there in the template.

I think I am leaning to not arriving so early and just doing entire inspection in field and entire report at home.

I can never use the CTL2 in the tablet mode as the stylus is crap.

Just curious how others are doing and time taking to complete inspection and report. Please use a house that is older with numerous repairs.  For me about 3 hours inspecting and 2 hours report.

I use a Tablet IBM Thinkpad. ? The digitizer pen works pretty well. ? If I need hand written notes, I writer them on the journal notepad program. ? I use no actual paper and pen(Except for contract signing).

I usually enter bath and kitchen info on site. ? Defects that arent listed in my templates, I use digital pics or digitally written notes to record. ? I try to list my comments in order of how often they show up; with the most critical ones at the bottom of the list. ? If everything is OK...I try to enter it on site. ? That way back at the office I'm entering defects, pics, and newly add comments. ? I'm always modifying.

A older house may take 3hrs to inspect, and about 1 1/2 hrs to write...including mod's to my "comments"

How will the android help you?

Search as you type and one hand operation might make a difference for me.
I have absolutely no time for laptops or tablets.

My focus is the client and real inspection when on site.

Never been a checklist guy as I am visual so phone is my last chance to cut report time as it is always on me.

Dave...I'm in the "camp" 1/2 between you and Bob. 

My tablet spends 80% of it's time in the Kitchen.  If I can't enter info quickly, I will do so!...otherwise I enter it at home.  Most defects I record with pics.  I don't do "Typing in the field".

I was recently checking out both new Android & Iphones.  My old android would not be ideal.  Some of the new Android phones seem really slick, and with 4 1/2" screen may work well (ie; Samsung Nexus). Then I can carry it everywhere on the inspect.  I personally am not a fan of the large Android Tablets.  The GUI bugs me on large screen...but that's my OCD.

Now of course the most important aspect of any of these devices...Watching season 4 of "Sons of Anarchy".
