I'm not sure I see a major difference or benefit in a Save and a Save As button.  Currently HIP has the equivalant of a Save As button since it automatically gives the option to change the name from the previous save.  Adding a dedicated Save button only removes one click or "Enter" key strike from the save process. I know most programs have both and I guess every click saved reduces your time.

If the point of the save button is to provide a quick save feature which reduces clicks, why not just give HIP the background autosave Dom mentioned. That removes every click.  What would be even more slick is if the autosave rotated between three files (i.e. AUTOSAVE1, AUTOSAVE2) so you had multiple backups as you work. I do that now just because of the photo losses I had, they got me into the habit of saving after each major section using one of four different files on a rotating basis.

The current Save button would remain but the autosave would have to record where you were working and then put you back there or it would really get annoying quick.

Hey guys, speaking of saving. I save a lot as my ctl2go tends to shut down randomly on warm days. My question is, will upgrading to 2 gig of ram speed up the save process?

Yes it will as more of the app will load in ran rather than on the hard drive.

Hi Dom,
As this is my first post here I wast to thank you for a great and easy to use program. I have used the most popular and most expensive there is, and I can say with all certainty that HIP is the best.
I would like to request that you offer the auto save option in the near future please. I have found that I depend on it with most of my other software and programs and am finding it quite difficult to re-program this middle aged brain to manually do my saves. This morning as I was working with a report, Windows had done an update and insisted on a reboot and I lost all the work I had done to that point.
Again, thank you for a great value and a program that is truly well thought out.

Hi Steve,

We have put it the to-do list as an option for guys to turn on (it'll be off by default). That way those who want to use it, can.
