What is the best (simplest) way to sync programs on two different computers?

I want to sync from my netbook (what I use at a inspection on site) to my main office computer to finish the report and upload photos, email out, etc.

???

I have a network set up for my computers.

I had my computer guy set them up for me.

I call it the HIP file transfer. I have 3 folders. One is for the data files, one for the client data and the hip transfer folder. This has worked much better than the thumb drive.

I create on main PC, transfer to Q1 for field and then back to the main.

I am sure someone that is tech savy can explain how to set up the network folders.

Hey Scott,

The easiest way is to use dropbox.com. It creates a virtual folder on each machine. Save to the folder and it appears on all your machines connected to the net automatically! It makes it extremely easy and is free for up to 2 gigs of storage (800+ HIP reports).

You can also use thumb drives like Dave mentioned.

I'm going the Dropbox route!

OK, now do I just drop in the entire HIP file, the Data file or what?

For now, just drop the Data folder to move your templates, documents, formatting, etc. Once you get the template the way you want you'll only need to move the ONE .tpz file for your template.

You can copy the inspection you're working from out of the Client Data folder to move it from one machine to another.

One other cool tip. Every inspection has the template stored within it. So you could actually JUST move the inspection file (Client Data), open it on another machine, and hit Save Template to update your template on each machine. The only thing this doesn't move it the documents. Soo you could just move the Client Data file back and forth and be done!

Wow....I too am thinking about using dropbox to sync between my pc and my macbook. I guess I would just copy paste or cut paste the whole hip file into drop box and then work on my inspections from within drop box is that rigtht? What other advice do you have to keep me from messing this up?
