I had no idea about the CD thing.
Do all degrade after 10 years? I have VHS tapes from when they first came out in the early eighties that still play. |

It depends on the brand and the quality of the CD-R media. If you go with a good name brand such as Sony, Memorex, TDK, they will last a long time. You also need to make sure that you keep them in a cool, dry location, preferably in a case or a sleeve. I know back in the late 90s and early 2000s there was a lot of bad CD-R media, so it's good to backup your stuff in multiple ways. Using an online option such as carbonite.com, or an external hard drive, in addition to backup up to flash drive or CD-R, makes sure that in case one option fails, you always have an alternative. It never hurts to have redundant backups, as no option is 100%.

Thanks Dan
I think a good aux hard drive is a good choice as it also enables you to carry info with your netbook, tablet, laptop, etc. Never tried but is it possible to store info from 2 computers on one hard drive? The multiple tera bite drives seem to beg for it? |

Yup, there's no problem with storing multiple machines information on one drive. You could have the drive setup so it's one big drive (appears as one drive letter), then have a separate folder for each of the computers you are backing up. This is probably the best option, and the easiest.
Or, you could have the drive split into multiple areas or "partitioned" into multiple drives (they will appear as separate drive letters). To partition the drives, you'd need to do this before you begin using the external hard drive, as splitting the drive removes all the existing information (usually). More information for partitioning a drive can be found here: www.ehow.com/how_4881911_partition-external-hard-drive.html |

Will give it a try on my next one as my HD videos take up a big chunk on the Tower.

Carbonite will only backup what you tell it to. Make sure you go to the Home Inspector Pro file and right click on each file type, .tpz, .hzf, .hdf and tell Carbonite to backup those file types. |
