TOPIC: How to use Lists

Re: How to use Lists 13 years 8 months ago #39728

Right now you'd need to insert the same list multiple times. If you make the first item in the list blank, any list you don't select would just end up blank. So with something like that, add 2 or 3 lists. I'll look at the possibility of multiple select in the future when we get some other features done.

Mike,

When I make a damage panel comment I always set it up with three or four of the same list like Dominic is describing. (usually with "location" or "room" type lists)  As I'm making my list, I make sure I put a space before every item in the list. I don't put any spaces in between the lists when I insert them into my comment.  That way, I can insert 3 or 4 of those multiple lists, but if I only use one I don't have a bunch of extra spaces in my comment that I have to delete out.

For location, I also made three location lists:  "location"       ", location"    and      " & location"   That way, if I think it works better in the comment, I can say:

"The siding has major moisture damage on the north, south & east sides of the house."

Not sure if I am a fan of these lists or not.  I loaded a list of water heater manufacturers but I also like to have the year built in that comment.  Like....  The water heater is manufactured by Rheem and was manufactured in 2007.  I normally leave just the year off and when it is moved to Black / Red, I double click and add the year.

So this is what would help.  Once the list is put in the Black / Red, and the item from this list is chosen, I want to be able to double click it and add the year.  Unfortunately at this time you cannot.  Once the item is in the list, you have to change it in the list and not in the Black or Red.

Cmon Dom.  Those were friggin expensive cookies....  Let's work a little longer and harder each day, eh?

Steve,

I'm confused about what you are explaining...

Wouldn't that just be two lists in the same comment?  The comment would look like this in the damage panel:

The water heater is manufactured by <<MANUFACTURER>> and was manufactured in <<YEAR>>.

And then you select the manufacturer and the year after you move it to the black/red.  Isn't this what you are trying to do or is it something different?

Yeah.  It would be two lists.

I juts find it easier to double click on an item once it is in the Black/Red and add in the date of manufacture.  You aren't allowed to edit or add information to an item in the list without changing the item within the list itself.

Lists are great if you never want to edit or add to them for a specific report.

Stephen,

I think you have it backwards or I'm missing something (quite possible). You HAVE to select the item once it's in the black, red side!! Like Cameron said, make a <<YEAR>> field and fill it with everything from the 19xx on.
