TOPIC: Ladder Question

Re: Ladder Question 13 years 10 months ago #37622

I love my little giant, I got one with wheels. Not to heavy that way. There has only been two roofs in 4 1/2 hears I haven't been able to get on with that. I rented a ladder for a couple of hours for those.

I haven't seen the one with wheels. How large is it?

It is 6 feet and extends to 22 feet. I picked it up at a home show 4 or 5 years ago.

I have a 17 ft with wheels.  Wheels are available as an add on for $29.99 from LG

The past 3 or 4 years most models have come with the wheels already attached.  It is nice to roll from the street to the house.  The wheels do not interfere with the ladder when used in the extension configuration.  You can erect the ladder with the wheels on the ground or waving in the air.

Since I also have the leg leveler, I ususally erect with the wheels in the air.  The leg leveler makes it very easy to adjust for uneven ground.  Well worth the $39.99.

Little Giants are heavy, but I would not be without one. Wheeled LG models are great except for going up and down stairs. That is where a telescoping or 6 foot step are the best.

I bought my LG as a Home Show demo model and saved about $100. Looked and functioned like a brand new one. Check out various websites, you may find another sale/demo special.

I have only see one articulating ladder with a single release mechanism and that is the ladder that I use. I have a 12 ft and a 16 ft model. I rarely use the 16 footer but I carry it everyday for when I need it. My ladder is much lighter than the Little Giant and is also rated 300 lbs. The ladder I use was originally branded Krause then they changed to Climbtek and now appear to have changed names again to Climb-Pro by Michigan Ladder company. My 16 foot Krause is 15 years old and works like new. My 12 foot Climb Tek is about 4 years old having to replace my older 12 Krause after it was hit by a tuck. Ace Hardware sels them now as Climb Pro. This ladder is very inspector friendly with the single release.

I am not sure why the recent name change but early the Krause engineer changed the latch mechanism and they had a class action law suit. Climb Tek used the older patent and made great ladders. Michigan may have just bought Climb Tek out. Moral of story is don't by a used Krause ladder unless you check the serial number and the class action suit.

Good luck,
