TOPIC: Ladder Question

Just curious as to what ladder most of you use?  I have been looking at The little Giant ?  any good bad or ugly info?.

Little Giants are way to expensive.

I use 3 for inspecting.

I have a Cosco that extends to 17 feet. I have had for over 5 years, excellant ladder.

I use a 6 foot Werner for attics and drop ceilings in Houses. Better than a 4 ft.

I have a 24 foot extension but I do not like, anything higher tabh my 17 foot ladder I am not climbing.


The telescopic ladders are cool.

You could buy a telescopic, 6 foot Werner and a 17 ft Cosco and still have money left over than buying a little Giant.

I keep my 4 ft Werner in my truck for Crawls if needed.

I keep my 24 foot ladder by my shed and I never use as it is to high, not stable enough for my liking.

Kinda depends on what you will be climbing most often. 

Several urban inspectors routinely get up on 3 story flat roofs.  Most carry a 32 or taller extension ladder.

Most inspectors in my area carry a 24 ft extension ladder, or a 17 Little Giant.
Many also have a 12 ft telescoping ladder.

17 is too short to get up on most 2nd story roofs.  12 ft telescoping is useful for interior attic scuttle openings or for getting from a single story roof up to an adjoining second story roof.

Little Giants are heavy to carry around but very stable and reliable.  If I were to buy another I would spend the extra $100 and get the light weight version and add two leg levelers.  Light weight with 2 leg levelers is the same weight as a standard LG without a leg leveler.  The leg levelers are a must.  You will be more likely to use the ladder and you will be much safer.

Whatever ladder you get, I definitly recommend you get a set of leg levelers or a leveler that can be switched from  side to side.  The $75-$100 seems pricey at first but you will thank yourself everytime you climb the ladder that it is level and not resting on whatever scrap you found lying around or worse hoping it does not fall over while climbing.

You life and health is worth the extra money for a quality ladder.  Get a professional grade ladder and treat it with care.  It will provide you years of service and is safer than some flimsy homeowner ladder.  You will be climbing it at least a couple times of week not just twice a year to clean your gutters. 

I love my little giant Used it several times today. It is a bit heavy though, but darn reliable. Had it for about 7 years.

A big part of my criteria is that it has to fit in my 5' truck bed.  I have a 17' Costco, a 13' Werner and a 15' Extend and climb.  If those ladders don't reach it, I don't climb it.

I love the little giants.  I have one from 1-1993 Wing manufacturing still in use. My new 17' I love as well.
