TOPIC: Military discount

The only reason I extend the discount to reservists is that they can at any time and have been called up to active duty and put into harms way for the Defense of this country. I also include police and firefighters, paramedics and EMTs,because they provide necessary and sometimes get themselves into dangerous situations for the protection of the community. This is my little way of giving back to the community by offering them and only them a discount for my services. As a veteran, reservist and former paramedic I just think this is the right thing to do that's all. I do understand that every independent business owner needs to assess who he or she should extend discounts to I applaud you for that. I will definitely take your advice and post this discount on multiple pages of my website. Thanks for the suggestion.

No problem with the DD214.  In fact it may help that you ask for it.  If they are financing their purchase through a VA loan, they are going to need it anyway.  It gives them a chance to find it.

Make sure you advertise it in a couple different areas of your website.

I only offer an active military discount and everybody understands that without question.  When I started thinking about Police and Fire, I then started thinking about teachers.  Then someone brought up credit union members.  Then someone said, what about a Costco discount.

After much thought, I kept the Active Military discount, but none of the others.  I can expect a rush of discounts usually twice a year, once when the local army base does their movements and once when the navy base does theirs.  They come in streaks.

What??? No Costco Discount!? What about AAA?

Maybe I should ask more, but I don't usually ask if they are/were military, etc... and if they don't tell me then no discount. I will say that I'll cut a bro a break if we're talking and the service comes up.  I'm a retired veteran and love discounts but always ask.  Sometimes my wife is a bit embarrassed when I ask but when I make a $200 purchase at Lowes, I'll take the $20 off--but you have to ask.

Wait till you see the discount for software programmers that don't include the requested upgrades or put them at the end of the list........ 

I provide a discount to Military, police, fire fighters, EMT's, and teachers.  In my opinion they all serve the community.  I don't require any proof as that is just another thing I would have to keep track of doing.  And I am very lenient, I only require that they or someone involved (paying me) have done one of these jobs at some point in their life.

I have been out of the Navy now for over ten years no discount has been offered to me for being a veteran , so I think that's great you are offering that. I guess if it was me I would just use the honor system. I never use my dd214 really not even sure where it is.
