TOPIC: Military discount

I'm going to advertise a military, law enforcement, and fire personnel.  I assume current members will have ID for proof.  What do you require for honorable dischargees?

That's always a hard question. I think most guys just go on the honor system with this one.

I've heard of a DD214 which  is a discharge document but I don't know if requiring one for proof is a reasonable request.

Some vets take offense to being requested to show proof that they've served for our country. But ultimately it's up to you what you'll accept.

I also give discounts to law-enforcement, EMT, paramedic, firefighters, active-duty and reserve military personnel, and honorably discharged veterans. I have yet to run into a veteran that I objected to showing me a copy of his DD 214. I have actually had a veteran bring copy of his DD 214, a copy of his discharge certificate, and his picture ID from the Veterans Administration (the only way you can get this ideas with an honorable discharge). I am a veteran and personally I wouldn't have a problem myself showing anyone a copy of my DD 214 to verify that I have served this country especially was funny to me a 10% discount.

No problem with the DD214.  In fact it may help that you ask for it.  If they are financing their purchase through a VA loan, they are going to need it anyway.  It gives them a chance to find it.

Make sure you advertise it in a couple different areas of your website.

I only offer an active military discount and everybody understands that without question.  When I started thinking about Police and Fire, I then started thinking about teachers.  Then someone brought up credit union members.  Then someone said, what about a Costco discount.

After much thought, I kept the Active Military discount, but none of the others.  I can expect a rush of discounts usually twice a year, once when the local army base does their movements and once when the navy base does theirs.  They come in streaks.
