TOPIC: link exchange or lack of

Link exchange as we know is very important for SEO but only if you are on someone elses site. I have spent many hours trying to link to everyone at HIP but have noticed about 20% never return the favor and they are getting free advertising on other's sites. I have been trying not to get mad at these folks who want a favor without giving something in return (reminds me of wellfare) but it looks like things are slow enough right now I will start to remove those who are to lazy to comply or are afraid to advertise their compitition. I hope all of you linkers will do the same. Call me a butthead but the non linkers don't deserve a link if they can't do the same for us. Also there are a few who I wouldn't link because they don't even have a link page (and they still list their site for us to put on our site) and to those without an e-mail because I can't inform them I'm linking their site to mine, therefore how do they know who to link back to.

I am guilty of not exchanging links with most inspectors.
I am linked with you.

If I am sent a personal email with the information I usually respond in a few days.
I do not have the time to go down the list in the link exchange at this time.

You are right on the importance of proper SEO.

David Your name was on the message board quite a bit when I started last year with about 50 others and most of that bunch has returned the favor. When I first started I got most of my link info from the message board and those who were on it. I am glad that HIP added the links page (maybe it was there but I missed it) it is quite a bit more efficiant.  Thanks for the link

Hey Aaron, I just went through all my links as well, 43 failed to return the favor, I was able to get most of there e-mails by either clicking on there nachi verification image link, even found one in there footer. There were two that did not have any contact info and were deleted, 6 out of the 43 have since reciprocated but I just finished e-mailing them today and expect more exchanges to come.

I gave them till the end of the month and I will start deleting.

E-mail address should be a requirement on the link exchange page

Most guys get around 80% returned after first posting on the message board (quickest way), and then emailing people if your site isn't added within a week or two. Not everyone checks the site all the time. Using the link exchange program on our homepage is definitely a huge help.

I would have to say that I am probably one of the worst at exchanging links. Sorry. I have so many projects going that my sites suffer. I have unanswered emails from guys that have linked me.

I for one, almost never check the SEO thread. I go to the link exchange on the homepage to see who is new.

I will get around to it, I promise. You guys linking us without us returning, doesn't help us either.
