Here in California listing agents get in many cases, dozens of offers for a single home.  When that happens its an indicator of pent up buyer demand for REO or short sale bargain properties.  Unfortunately, the inventory of those properties is being controlled by the banks and or government.  Total number of transactions are dropping as a result of same.

Our September state wide sales figures were good, October's which have not been released yet are anticipated to be lower.  Catch all the work you can, there's a really possiblity of a double dip with regard to our injured economy...

There are a host of options out there.  You can really improve your financial position legally and preserve much of your current assets in doing so.  Here's a link that maybe of assistance.  Hundreds of links, pages and or blogs in this site.  Go into the Mortgage and or BK sections.  It's amazing what can be done with these loans and still stay in your home.
