TOPIC: Are the bus bars bonded to the panel?

Are the bus bars bonded to the panel? 12 years 4 months ago #49235

Hello all,

This is the main panel.  Both bus bars appear to be isolated from the panel.  I don't see a bonding strap or green screw.  Am I missing it?

Just thinking but I wonder if the bare conductor going out of the upper left corner is attached to a ring at the exit of the panel.  Could you see that area in back of the wires?  I see that in older panels sometimes.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

Thank you Stephen.

I never thought to look there.  I noticed there were a few 12 and 14 gauge wires connected to the metal wire connecters at the top where the wires come into the panel.  But I didn't check that ground wire.

The ground conductor shown MAY be touching the panel on the way out, but based on experience with panels of this approx. age I think it is highly unlikely that it is connected on a way that would be proper bonding.  The other possibility is the screw that is partially hidden at the upper left behind the neutral.  In older panels the screws were not always green.  However, there is really no way to tell for certain without removing it.  Some people test with an ohm meter between the bus and the panel, but that is not certain because stray connections may exist.
