Turned on the desktop to start an inspection report and the system shut down and a  link to KASPERSKY LABS popped up. Said I had some kind of virus and a free scan to detect the virus. I know the scam, a free scan is done but no cleaning is done until you buy the software.

Well, I want to know who Kaspersky is, what are they doing on my computer because I've never heard of them before, and what is Microsoft hawking their software to buy via Vista.

This Vista is lousy and I'm going to get another computer from my computer guy that is clean and will install xp pro to get back to a comfort level that was reliable.

Yes, I have all the spam, virus, malware and any other stuff that is out there that appears to be useless. I know when this test scan ends, the sales pitch begins.

I'm typing this on my laptop in xp.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm sick of the poor reliability on any computer hardware and software.

There, I feel better...but the issue on my desktop is still there !

Kaspersky is a legit operation, and find it unlikely that they would throw up spam crap like that. If you're seeing that message it's probably spam from another company trying to get referral money from them.

Boot into safe mode (hit f8 before the windows screen loads) and remove any extra junk under add/remove programs and run your virus scan.

You can also usually stop a shutdown by clicking on start, and typing into the box right above: shutdown /a ,and hit enter on vista.

Kaspersky is free, RIGHT!!! with a purchase of Turbo Tax at Staples.  Have to send in the rebate forms after the $69 purchase.  Seems to work well on my gonk.
