TOPIC: 2go PC from CTL

I must say I've not seen worse customer service than I have had in the last two days with CTL.  What I'm trying to do is have one running Linux since I have read theat XP is not real great with touch screens, and, I just like to be different!

Here's what has transpired:

I was told by their online chat that I could order the unit less operating system but I had to call in to do that.  When I called to order I was told that the system was not compatible with Linux so I gave up. 

Going back to their website tonight, I see that they claim that this unit "supports Linux".  I then pulled up a chat with them and they told me I could order it with Ubuntu.  When I questioned him on that, he backtracked and told me Linux would not work on the tablet version. 

When I tried to bring to his attention that their website claims the unit supports Linux, he did not respond, and after 20 minutes of waiting, I gave up.

I admit that I'm no computer genius but I can't get a straight answer.

At this point, I'm leaning towards waiting for the ASUS T91 to be available with Windows 7 to get the best functionality out of the touch screen.

I also am intrigued with the Touch Book from Always Innovating, but they won't return emails inquiring about leadtimes.

Any comments or direct experience with these units?

The CTL2go system has a built in add-on for XP and it works great. There's absolutely no problem. Windows 7 has added even more features. Look at www.homeinspectorpro.com/inspector-forum...s/1526-A-New-Tablet/ to read the reviews from the guys on it. This is by far the best tablet for an inspector I've seen, especially for the price. I know lots of guys using them and they all love it. You could definitely put Linux on it, but their tablet features that they've added like the handwriting recognition wouldn't work.

I have the Always Innovating tablet. It's still in beta and took about 5 months to get mine. I'm very impressed by it's features, but it's too flimsy for use in the field at this time. The plastic casing won't make it long. In a slate only mode, detached from the keyboard it probably wouldn't be too bad.

Linux is not really meant for people who aren't really good with computers. There's also a few extra steps when working with HIP & Linux as it can't do certain things like auto open a PDF reader. The Linux version of HIP is also always a few months behind Mac & Windows as we only have a few dozen guys running Linux.

It's hard to make a decision on hardware and software I can't try out so I apologize if I'm beating this to death!

I don't mind the 2go, but was looking for a larger keyboard.

Larger keyboard means larger screen. You can get a 10" or 12" tablet but the price doubles.

Make sure to clear your email inbox. I've emailed you a few times but they bounce back saying your mailbox is full.
