Get an external drive like: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148503 and use a free program like Cobian Backup to manage your file backups.

Dom

How hard is it to install the external drive.

Do we still need cobian with the external drive?

I think I understand the external drive, Will I be able to save every program I already have on my internal hard drive ?? Also I read on the net that Vista operating systems have some problems when you try to re-load from a back up. I am not the sharpest tack in the box when it comes to computers :)

You're not backing up the entire computer, just your data. You'll still need your original CD's to install your programs , then you can copy the data back. If you want a complete copy of your machine you'll need a program like Norton Ghost. If you just want your data then Cobian Backup would work. Yes, David with the external drive if you want it automated on a schedule you should use a program. Of course you could move it manually too, but it's more work.

End of the year house keeping-aka Backup.  I would like to move some files off the system into a more long term storage solution. I really see no reason to keep files from inspections from 2 years ago on the little ctl 2go. Any ideas for a good long term back up solution?
