TOPIC: Problems with attached documents sent in email

Problems with attached documents sent in email 15 years 1 month ago #22372

Everytime I send a word document that was saved to my documents, it gets to the other end as an odt. file and no one can open it. I have to go back and switch it or convert it to a pdf.
Anyone know what the hell an odt. file is and why this is happening.

Thanks in advance.  :)

Marcel, it is an Open Office file extension.  filext.com/file-extension/ODT See this link. Probably somewhere in your preferences, email, ect. you have it listed to save as a odt. You can open odt"s with word and vice versa.

Thanks Drew and good morning to you.

That is what confuses me, I can open on my end, but everytime I send it in that format to someone, they write back and say they can't open it. Then I have to convert to PDF.
I'll browse around to try and find it, I guess. Some what embarressing when your sending a resume or letter.
I swear, this new computer does things I don't understand.

Thanks Drew and hope you have a good week ahead of you.  :)

I think I found it, not sure. Switched it to Word under properties.
Will know when I send one through the email to someone.

Thanks Drew, that was a lot of help.  :)

Marcel, sounds like your not using Word, you're using Open Offices Write program. Like you said, you can save it as a Word file though sending documents as a PDF is better unless you want them to be able to edit it easily. A resume should DEFINITELY be sent as a PDF.

Hi. Dom and thanks, I am using Open Office.org that came with the computer, I think I change it so other people can get a document instead of odt.
I agree, using PDF now that I know how to do it. ha. ha.

Man it sucks being illiterate to this things. Just learning the hard way.
Well, gone to school of Hard Knox all my life, so what's new Eh! ;D
