TOPIC: Mozy, Carbonite, or other?

Mozy, Carbonite, or other? 15 years 3 months ago #19494

What opinions do any of you have about using backup services. I am looking at Mozy, and Carbonite. Any thoughts on them?

I was also reading a thread which mentioned Cobian Backup. Is that an online service or a program to backup to a hard drive.

Right now I back up to an external hard drive, but I think I need an off site just in case of some type of physical damage like a fire.

Cobian backup is what I use. It backs up to another hard drive or if you have a server online it'll back that up too. I also use it to backup everyone's websites from the servers in Texas and Washington to a computer in my office.

I haven't used any of the online services but have read good things about carbonite.

I DL'd the Cobian and did a full backup on my Documents and settings. It is an easy to understand program, I like it so far. Do I need to backup my C drive? What about the HIP report program?

DEFINITELY backup your HIP directory. The whole thing. Your My Documents is the other important folder along with any place you might be saving tax info, or data in other programs that isn't saved in your My Documents.

Does Cobian use a lot of resources? Can I just leave it running or should it be used manually?

Install it as a service that way it only runs at midnight or whatever schedule you set it to. Of course your computer has to be left on. If not, just run it manually once a week like I do, just don't forget!
