TOPIC: Does Anybody Think A Table Of Contents Would Be Useful In The Report?

Does Anybody Think A Table Of Contents Would Be Useful In The Report? 14 years 6 months ago #32298

Do any of you think that a table of contents listing the sections and the page number each section starts would be beneficial?  I found myself leaving out a section when printing and then realizing that I forgot to add it in the section colors and format.  At least with a table of contents, I would be able to quickly glance that I had all of the sections included before I printed the pdf.

Hey Bob!

Good to see you around here again.

Adding in a TOC is on our to-do list now but it wouldn't solve the problem you have above. If you don't have a section selected under Section Colors & Print Order then it wouldn't show on the TOC either. The sections would also be the same sections you see on the left side on the bookmarks. We've talked about making the Section Colors & Print Order page pop up when you click Generate Report but almost everyone said that would slow them down and they didn't want it, but we could look at adding it in as an option. We are finishing up a report that will list sections you haven't listed comments on, but again it compares to the Section Colors & Print Order page as people wouldn't want a long list of items from pages that shouldn't be printing.

If you have any ideas on this, let us know!

Yeah, Dominic, you are correct.  Nothing will be able to fix my blunders with missing sections.  At least it is just paper and none of my clients gets a report missing sections.

Yeah, I am glad to be around here again.  I have been fairly busy and continue to use the best home inspection software out there..Home Inspector Pro. :D

If we added an option in that listed the Section Colors & Print Order page each time you hit Generate Report, would you use it?

We recently hired 2 new guys (see the General Info section) so I've been able to start getting back to doing a lot more programming that has been going on lately. Look forward to some new features coming soon!

Yes, I would use it, but it might be a nuisance for others.  Maybe, like you mentioned, that could be an option set in "options".  Those who would use it could click the box and it would happen when one clicked "generate report".  While others could not check the box in "options" and wouldn't get it when clicking "generate report". ;)

Isn't the default that it prints everything whether anything is included or not?
So if a section gets forgotten, it would be because it has been deselected,  no?
