How do you find a basement inspector when in your state like Texas they don't show any.
I thought to get my own license to do them but none of the courses have a section on basements.
What do you suggest I do to get a license so I will be one of the few that can do them in texas.

Probably falls under general home inspection there, which is TREC. Google that and you should find some info. If all else fails, call inspectors in your area, someonen will have a direction to point you in.

Willie, the basement falls into the TREC inspection template as part of the structure, electrical, plumbing, etc.

Willie, what part of Texas are you in? In my neck of the woods South Texas, the San Antonio area to be more specific, we have Slab foundations and some pier and beam foundations on older homes, 60's and prior. With the shifting soils here the reinforcement costs for a basement wouldn't be feasible, thus the use of mostly of the floating slab for foundations. The cost of excavation due to solid rock in many areas would also effect the choice of using basements. I grew up with basements in Pennsylvania, but have not experienced any in my parts here in texas, not to say there aren't any. As mentioned above TREC is the licensing body for inspectors, and basements for inspectors would fall under the structural catagory. Inspections and even the TREC examination for Licensing is broken down to Structural, Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical. Why wouldn't a licensed TREC inspector be qualified to inspect a basement in your area if needed? In my parts an inspector specializing in basement inspections would probably fare as well as a snow plowing technician.  :) :) :)

Willie, seriously, I'm just curious about what part of Texas you're in. Is there a part of texas that has a lot of basements? You don't say where you are inquiring from?
