What is the preferred method of hosting / embedding Flash video on an HIP website?

I was fooling with my some Flash animation today and wanted to see how to incorporate it into my HIP site. The file uploader will not allow .SWF file extensions on uploads and .FLV, which it does allow, requires a player. The embed Flash option on the editor will not work with FLV files. I wound up hosting the SWF file on my non-HIP server and editing the source to display the animation on the page. I know that I can do the same thing with an animated .GIF, but a Flash animation is about 1/6th the size and harder for people to plagiarize. Is there a reason that the uploader will not allow SWF extensions? Is there a better way?

The animation is at the bottom of the home page www.houstonthermalinspections.com/ (note: that I have not populated the site yet)

There's a few ways. You can host it on youtube and then post the source in your site which helps with rank as well (youtube video links back to your site).

What was the problem when you posted an FLV file?

I didn't want all of the "extras" you get with youtube. I just wanted it to look like and animated image. When I try embedding an .flv file, the video doesn't load, just white space. I re-embedded the .flv version at the bottom of the page www.houstonthermalinspections.com/

Also, I noticed that the slogan gets pre-pended to the home page title. Is that intentional / configurable?

This is intentional. The slogan should have your keywords: Home Inspections or Thermal Inspections in .... ( list 5 cities). This is a way to make sure your ranking high.

You can embed an swf file using the code below (example). Let me know if you have a problem uploading an swf, I can't remember if it's in the allowed file list, it should be.

<object width="550" height="400">
<param name="movie" value="somefilename.swf">
<embed src="somefilename.swf" width="550" height="400">
</embed>
</object>

.swf is NOT on the allowed list. I have the code working just fine for the .swf. The only problem is I can't host the source file on the HIP site. It only allows you to upload .flv files which don't work

Not sure I understand why the slogan gets put in the page title, there's a separate editable page title attribute too. I'll need to drop the slogan then because it's not keyword optimized like the page title is.

Thanks

Most guys don't do as much to optimize their site like they should so one simple thing they can do is make their slogan something like Home Inspections in ( 5 cities ) so it appears on every page title. Those who want to have something different can create a block and put it in the header for a separate title to appear on the page , then have the slogan appearing in the actual title. There are 2 or 3 themes that don't have header blocks but we'll change that once we finish our new roll out.
