TOPIC: Google Analytic Reports

Google Analytic Reports 14 years 9 months ago #29997

What reports do you all find necessary, most useful, or interesting using your analytics? I hate trying to take the easy road out, but reading through all Google's info just does not seem prudent if I can cut to the chase.

What data are you all tracking? and how do you set up the various reports to follow that data?

I seem to have a decent amount of traffic on my site, yet the phone is not ringing. So if you have any pointers using this tool let me know.  ;)

Most important data to track is what keywords are driving traffic to your site, what search engines and other sites they are coming from, how long they are spending on each page, how many people leave after seeing the first page (bounce rate) and the number of unique visitors.

Keywords are important as traffic can be driven to your site for a reason that doesn't help. For example a RSS feed might be coming up high in a search phrase and so people visit your site. This helps your rank and gives you exposure, but won't give you an inspection (at least not today).

How long people spend on each page is important as it lets you know what pages people don't like. Same goes for your bounce rate.

WOW! Does this ever sound familiar. I think it is content of the page. I have not looked at you site Troy, but that was the heart of the issue for me. It took a long time to get the content right, but just recently the phone has started to ring some.

I checked out the Google Analytic report a few times.  One time it showed me the number of visitors, where they are from etc.  Now it tells me I never had a visitor to the site yet.  Has something gone wrong somewhere?

Sounds like you are logging in under different email addresses. Or you've disabled the code for Analytics (check your blocks) and it's telling you nothing has been registered in the last month.

Duhhh.  That was it.  Logged in under a different address.  As soon as I entered the analytic site, it right away showed my site so it didn't occur to me that I was using the wrong address.
How can I tell which of those visits would be mine?  Some I can tell for sure was not me because I didn't use some of the searches but some of the others could be me.
