Hi. Jeff, what I see in your pics is definitely faux stone or cultured stone similar to Owens Corning product.
You can look at the base corner detail here, which might help you.

Could you see rusty spots at the tips of the staples on the garage side of the walls? If so, they didn't use brass staples on the lathe, as they should have.
