TOPIC: Fog Horn Noise... What causes this?

Re: Fog Horn Noise... What causes this? 15 years 6 months ago #12734

Hey Dave - my brother's company just opened a new store up on 2nd Street in Nashville, called Abernathy Road.  Lots of Col. Littleton stuff, clothes, other accoutrements.  Looks like a nice place - check it out!

His name is Ken Markanich but likely will not be there.  Silent partner...

Knowing him though might get you some attention and maybe a discount!  Doesn't hurt to try!

The test tube thingy, that absorbs the pressure is a shock absorber. It is to eliminate hammering of the pipes.

I think you're on the right track with the valve scenerio. If it's happening throughout the entire house, and not just an isolated fixture, check the water main valves. Maybe one is not open all the way. If it's hot water, check the valves at the water heater too.

Just to put the mystery to rest (in this case at least). A plumber replaced the fill valves in all 4 bathrooms and the noise went away. I guess he didn't want to narrow it down. Got more money this way I guess. I will make sure I do the test next time I run across this to save the seller some money. (In this case a bank)

Thanks for all the comments. You were right on Drew. karma for you!!

Dave is on track noises usually occur as a result of air in the drain
