Hello Hippies. Need some help. Are these ceramic blocks that appear to be out of place?

Scott - from the picture it is hard to determine anything.  Is there another picture showing this view in its relation to the whole fireplace?

Scott - they appear out of place, cracked and is that snow in there?  No heat in the house?

No snow. Fireplace actually burning at time of inspection. My thot is that is a screen to the blower unit???? Cabin is 2 years old.

Number 1 - where can I get me one of those!

Number 2 - I first thought it was a screen, but you said it was some form of ceramic, like perhaps to a catalytic converter.  I have never seen that in a wood-burning fireplace.  If it's screening and the blower unit is circulating air properly, then the figuration is probably correct.

They are dusty.  Does the unit need cleaning?  You can suggest that it looks very used and a service/cleaning is recommended.  That is always a good bet anyway...
