TOPIC: Looking for advice on starting a new pest control company

Re: Looking for advice on starting a new pest control company 10 years 6 months ago #54805

Not real sure why every post about an inspector looking to branch out or try a new idea ends up with negative comments or getting shot down and bashed on how its a bad idea. I really wish more people would be willing to help and contribute to someone looking to grow. I think if I followed everyones advice on forums Id still be doing only 400 inspections a year.

You made a post about starting a pest  control company.  You gave no information other than the scheduling request.  The vast majority of the time when someone says "starting", they are beginning as an inspector and have no idea about any aspect of this particular business.  Since Pest Control is such a regulated field, I gave some information that a beginner may not have known.  If you took offense, sorry.

If you are truly doing 400+ inspections a year and don't have a scheduling program already, well, it just gives one cause to question your posts.

Don't worry, I won't post or attempt to help on any more of your threads.  Wouldn't want you getting upset.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

I have a scheduling software. I use ISN. m looking for one pest control related. ISN is Home inspection related. There are software programs that are geared specifically to Pest control businesses. Just wanted to know if anyone used one before and which one is recommended.

Jason, did ISN ever respond to you about Pest scheduling?

No, I reached out 2x. Heard back from them once that Dan was going to contact me and that was the last I heard. That was last week.

Jason...don't take it offensively.  Operating a successful Inspection Business (or any company), it's always wise to view your business from other angles. Only you know your market.  I live in Illinois, one of the most legislated States, along with California.  The  "Jack-of-all-Trades and Master-of-none" is not how I market.  If you're a multi-inspector firm it may be a good move to have a dedicated "pest" guy...or are you planning on doing it all?!

I have a reputation in the "Fox Valley-Tri Cities" for doing more 1 million dollar home inspection - and I'll bring in a dedicated HVAC contractor at no-charge for my client.  I don't market as the guy who does everything.  It's the same reason my mechanic doesn't do bodywork...but my mechanic will probably be able to refer me to a great bodyshop.

Illinois requires State Licensing...On top of that, If your inspection business is a S corp, C corp, or LLC...double those License fees in Illinois; even if you're a one many operation. You & the business need to be licensed.  PA in a State that doesn't require you to be licensed...and maybe in a rural area where Agent's & Client's only want to call one company, then it's a good move for you.
