I fill in my empty spots doing insurance inspections with a company that has work in alot of different states. They can use some help down in Cape Canaveral and in Tallahasse.

The pay isn't great, but if you calculate the hours, it pays about the same as a home inspection.
It's also good experience, and if you enjoy inspecting, it's not bad. Also, it will not interfere with your regular inspections.

If anybody is interested, let me know and I'll give you the contact info.

Whats involved with insurance inspections. I've noticed a few people say they do them.  Isn't this something you must get another license for?

No, just a very simple inspection. Usually check out major systems, takes like 20 minutes and you're out.

Like Dom says, about 20 mins and your out. Short report, takes about the same time once you get the hang of it.

How did you get hooked up doing these inspections?  I've started looking further into it and what I'm find is a public claims adjuster.  Is that what your doing?

Hi John,

I am not doing public claims adjusting. I looked into that. It requires a license, and it's up to you to get your own work. If you can get the work, that is ok, but it isn't easy.

I responded to an ad on Craigslist, looking for insuance inspectors. The company that I inspect for gets their work from the insurance providers... underwriting dept. An average inspection takes about 15-30 minutes, it takes about the same to do the report... after the learning curve.

I inspect anything from empty lots, residential, commercial, apartment buildings, warehouses, factories, liability, fire, workmen's comp... you name it.

The pay is miniscule, but it beats watching the grass grow. It is also good experience inspecting and report writing. There report system sucks, but they just spent a fortune on it and don't want to change.

The good thing is that they have a great deal of work, and I have an area that is very dense, so I don't spend more than 5 minutes driving between inspections. Monday I was at my first inspection at 8:30 am and completed 14 inspections by about 4pm.

If you want to try to hook up, I suggest calling the insurance companies and finding out who they give their inspection work to. Maybe you can get the work directly or through a service company like I do. Remember, they broker may not know who to refer to to. It is the underwriting department of the actual insurance company that requires inspections.
