TOPIC: Inspection equipment - best ladder size

Inspection equipment - best ladder size 13 years 1 month ago #44241

I'm new to the site and new to the inspection field.  I'm getting my equipment together to perform inspections (putting together a list as I've gone through training) and would appreciate any feedback on best length of ladder to purchase.  I have a six foot step and a 16 foot extension, but have a truck with cover, so they won't fit.  I'm looking at the Little Giant type ladders.  Not sure if the 20+ foot or a 17 would be better.  I'm in Southern Oklahoma and 90+ % of homes are single story.

Also, anyone have a list of equip they generally use or know where to get one?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Welcome to the forums! You'll get a few different answers on this one. A log of guys I know have the 17 or 19 foot little giants. Though some guys go for the lower weight costco version.

Greg... welcome!

Right off the bat... do not go crazy buying all the "toys" that you think you need. You will wind up not using most of it. Take your time, and shop around for the best buys. I'm not saying to buy cheap crap, just don't overpay for quality. And you always want quality. Cheap crap NEVER lasts very long, or works as it should.

More later...

Jeff

Welcome.  You will get lots of opinions on this issue.  Here's mine.

I use a 14.5 foot Telesteps, wide step, 300# version.  It gets me on any single story easily.  Fits in the trunk of my car and is easy to use in tight spaces.  (READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST)  I also have a 26 foot Little Giant.  Used 3 times since 2005.  For true 2 story homes (especially with our wet weather) I regularly use a pair of Bushnell Natureview 10x42 binoculars (waterproof and fogproof).  I can see nail heads from across the street and they are great if you wear glasses.

Good luck.

There is nothing sweeter than the smell of fresh cut grass on a baseball infield, the click of a wooden bat and the taste of a hot dog at a warm sunny daytime double-header.

Thank you all for your inputs.  This information is invaluable for getting started and although there's a lot to learn for the job itselt it helps to figure out the best tools for getting the job done.  Thanks again, especially for the links!
