I would go with the one that has better visibility and is more recognized in your area. In Arizona it would be ASHI. In your area, could be NACHI, CREA ect.... Check with some realty agents if you do not know for yourself. Good Luck George ;D

I'll let this thread go for now. Please keep it POSITIVE guys.

From everything I've seen over the years, most inspectors belong to multiple associations or no association. Every association has it's pro's & con's. Some are better at online education, some have better education for long time inspectors, some are better and new inspector education, some are better at local chapter education (which varies by location), some are more recognized than others by Realtors (as George pointed out), some can get you CE's for your state at a much cheaper rate, some are better at lobbying for you in your state. We're association neutral. I created or worked on the CREIA.org website (California), the CanNACHI.org (Canada) website, MidTNASHI (we're working on it now), OAHI and many other chapters. I've given talks to CREIA, InterNACHI, TAREI, & ASHI chapters. I've been to chapter meetings where ASHI & CREIA members joined together and even where ASHI & InterNACHI chapters had joined. Every one of them has their own benefits.

All the reasons above are why you'll find that about 40% of inspectors belong to multiple associations.

All good points Dominic, I belong to two. I guess that puts me in the 40%  :)

I've seen that people are really on the fence with this one. Guys usually bash each other's organization.

Some of the org's are doing a better job of "branding" as well. I've rec'd a few calls in the last few days and much to my surprise... people ask me which org I belong to.

I really think that inspectors make this choice before they know any difference between one or the other. It's too bad that the neg's are exemplified between org's but I suppose that it's true with anything.

Nachi has some great educational resources and ASHI has done a good job with "Branding". But to Nachi's credit I've had several agents tell me they only hire Nachi Inspectors.

I don't think that myself or anyone else is a better inspector because of who they associate with, they are good at what they do because of the effort they make to improve themselves.  <-- That should be emphasized more... and often. The success or failure of an underlying business we *associate* with is *their* own success or failure. We have to *make it on our own*

CREIA has great local chapters and a wealth of information is shared there.

I wish I had more to offer on the topic, but to each his own.

Good points Tim. If you're in California, ASHI & CREIA have combined chapters in many areas. This means that all their educational offerings will be the same at the chapter level at least. This might be true in other areas, but obviously this is where I'm the most familiar with as I visit the chapters quite often.
